The 13th graduating class of the Meir Harel Yeshiva, serving in the Golani Brigade, were sworn in this week at the Western Wall.
In so doing, they joined the chain of generations of Yeshiva students and sharp soldiers. Building and protecting the Jewish people in its land.
Even though we have been accompanying our fighting students for more than thirty years. It's exciting every time anew.
Exactly one week before the day of the liberation of Jerusalem, the Golani Brigade commander decided to return the ceremony to the Western Wall plaza, referring to the spectacular human mosaic of the brigade's soldiers and their backgrounds. True unity at the bottom of the Western Wall in Jerusalem. There is no doubt that this is the most appropriate place to express this unity, and this is the model that should serve the entire Jewish people.
The Aliya to Jerusalem on Jerusalem Day, to the unifying element of Jerusalem, "Jerusalem built up, a city knit together" כְּ֝עִ֗יר שֶׁחֻבְּרָה־לָּ֥הּ יַחְדָּֽו׃" (Psalm 122: 3) calls upon us to act for unity of the nation in "the city that makes all Israel friends" (Yerushalmi, Chagiga 2: 6).
