Rabbi Eliezer Shenvald,  Rosh Yeshiva (dean) of the Meir Harel Hesder Yeshiva and IDF Colonel (res.)


Rabbi Shenvald is a very dynamic educator who inspires his listeners and students to live the ideas of the Torah. He is also a deep Torah thinker and writer who brings the messages of Am Yisrael in Eretz Yisrael according to Torat Yisrael in a manner relevant to current Israeli society.
Rav Shenvald dedicates his life to the students of the Yeshiva, the Modiin Community, and Am Yisrael. His door is always open to all and his advice is sought on many issues.


Torani Background
Studied at the Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva in Jerusalem, the flagship Yeshiva of the Religious-Zionist movement. Learned Torah from Rosh Yeshiva Rav Zvi Yehuda Kook and Chief Rabbis Rav Shlomo Goren, Rav Avraham Shapira and Rav Mordechai Eliyahu.
Continued advanced theological seminary studies at the Golan Heights Hesder Yeshiva under Rav Yehoshua Weitzman.
Author of a number of important books on the subjects of Torah and Machshava such as Ma’ayanot HaEmunah, Sefer Harel, Tzava Veyeshiva, Dapei De’ah. In addition wrote dozens of articles in the fields of Jewish law and philosophy.
Spent 15 years as a Rabbi-educator at the Golan Heights Hesder Yeshiva.

Community involvement
Head of the Nachalat Shay Organization, which deepens Torah values among religious and non-religious Jews in Modiin and across Israel, in addition to teaching Jewish values to soldiers from all units of the Israeli army.
An active member of the Educational administrative board of the B’nei Akiva Youth Movement in Israel.
Senior Member of the Organization of Tzohar Rabbis. Active in the Community Rabbis Department as well as in coordinating the cooperation between American and Israeli Rabbis.

Military Record
A Colonel in the IDF reserve forces where he reports for regular and operational annual duty.
Since 2008 serving as the Commander of the IDF’s General Staff Training Administration
Leadership training on the officers training program at BHAD1
Operations Directorate officer in the Northern Command during the Second Lebanon War(2006)
Served as a Regimental Deputy Commander during Operation Defensive Shield in Shechem(2002)
His duties have included service as an armored division commander at the platoon, company and battalion levels, including during the First Intifada / Oslo War (1987-2001) a tank commander in the Peace for Galilee War (1982) and a platoon commander in the IDF’s Armored Division in Lebanon (1982-83)
Author of a number of articles on professional military topics including the Yom Kippur War
